Meeting Minutes:

  1. Correspondence and Announcements: None
  2. Introduction of new director of MOCA: Dr. Faith Gibson Hubbard
  3. Report from Commission Chair and Director Porter:
    1. Maternal Mondays: The series is going well. Last month’s video is still on Facebook for public viewing. Please stay continue to amplify this series so that the public can be aware of this program.
    2. Excel Academy Partnership: Many thanks to commissioners for participating in our mentorship series with the students of Excel Academy. This mentorship opportunity is an effective part of the Mayor’s prioritization of girls in the District, ensuring their voices are heard and that they have opportunities to develop networks and mentors beginning at young ages. The leadership of the Academy have been particularly pleased with our partnership and appreciative that the commission has continued it throughout the pandemic.

    3. Women’s History Month Activities

We had a great Financially Fit Women event. The series was launched last month during American Saves Week. Thanks to commissioners for engaging. Director Porter was part of the Women’s Economic Recovery Townhall, which featured an all-woman panel, and focused on economic opportunities and realities in the District because of the pandemic. There was great amplification of International Women’s Day messages on March 8 and we are looking forward to the remaining Women’s History Month observances, which include:

  1. 3/18/21: Well Women Wednesdays: Next pre-recorded video will focus on tangible tools and resources for self-care for women, focusing on therapeutic reading and writing, led by Joya Matthews of MOWPI and in conjunction with DC Public Library.
  2. 3/19/21: Sister’s Circle: Women’s Re-Entry Conference
  3. 3/20/21: #FITDC HERSTORY 5K: Virtual event, upload videos of physical activity
  4. 3/23/21: Work Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop—virtual
  5. 3/25/21: Queer Women of Washington Awards
  6. 3/25/21: Serve DC lunch and learn event featuring Director Porter in conversation about Women in Emergency Management and career opportunities.
  7. 3/30/21: Women of Excellence Awards, highlighting the District She-roes of the pandemic.

Calendar invitations and flyers will be distributed by MOWPI Staff.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Financial Literacy Awareness Month. We will be working in conjunction with other MOCA agencies and community groups to mark these observances.
