BEGA Selects Traci L. Hughes as Director of the Office of Open Government

The District of Columbia Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (“BEGA”) announced today that Traci L. Hughes, Esq. has been selected as the Director of the Office of Open Government. The Office of Open Government is an independent office within the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability. The mission of the Open Government Office is to promote open and transparent government operations to provide District citizens with greater information about how government officials make and implement decisions and to encourage public participation in government affairs.

Ms. Hughes is well known among District government having served as Deputy Attorney General for Communications and Legislative Affairs with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, and as Executive Director of Corporate Communications for the Metropolitan Police Department. In both roles she advised agency compliance with Freedom of Information Act requests and access to public documents. In the role of director for the Office of Open Government, Ms. Hughes is responsible for enforcing the Open Meetings Act, monitoring the District’s compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, and assisting government agencies in the implementation of open government practices.
