Today, the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability released its annual Best Practices Report. The report includes recommendations for legislative and policy improvements to the District's Ethics Act. The report also includes the Office of Open Government Director's recommendations for the establishment of a citywide open data and transparency policy, mediating FOIA disputes between requestors and District government agencies, and making changes to the Open Meetings Act.
The Board of Ethics and Government Accountability was established in 2012 to perform several important functions, including administering and enforcing the Code of Conduct. The Board also is responsible for appointing the Director of the Office of Open Government (OOG). The OOG, which began operations in April 2013, ensures greater government transparency through enforcement of the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Read more >>
